13 February 2009 PRESS RELEASE Chanelle Group acquires PBS Sales to become the largest distributor of pet care products in Ireland The Chanelle Group, the Irish-owned human and veterinary pharmaceutical group, has expanded its pet distribution business with the acquisition of Dublin-based PBS Sales Ltd for €4 million. The Chanelle Group has a turnover in excess of €60 million and the acquisition will make Chanelle Pet Accessories one of the largest distributors of pet food and products in the Irish market with a turnover in excess of €14 million per annum. Chanelle Pet Accessories was established by the Chanelle Group just three years ago and specialises in providing high quality pet products to the pet trade and veterinary surgeons. In addition the company also distributes its own private ‘Chanelle Pet’ range of pet accessories and companion animal pharmaceuticals and is the exclusive supplier and distributor of ISPCA products. “The Chanelle Group diversified into the pet distribution arena three years ago, achieving all our growth organically. This is our first acquisition and provides an excellent synergy to our existing business. PBS Sales Ltd was founded in 1945 by the Barrett Family and employs 35 people, including a strong sales force of 6. PBS distributes 7,000 products to customers all over Ireland. Founded in 1983 by Michael Burke, the Chanelle Group began by distributing animal health products to veterinary surgeons, and is now the largest veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturer in Ireland. With additional offices in France, the UK and Jordan the group employs 240 staff and exports to over 80 countries. In 2000, Chanelle diversified into the development and manufacturing of human generic pharmaceutical products and operates from the group’s 110,000 square foot facilities in Loughrea, Co Galway. Chanelle Medical has over 700 generic human licences granted worldwide to date. A combination of Michael Burke’s experience and the expertise of his staff has meant that the Group has experienced prodigious growth in business since its establishment. The turnover of the highly successful Chanelle Group is now in the region €60 million per annum and Michael Burke expects this to increase to €65 million in 2009. “We have grown every year since our establishment in 1983 and through organic growth and future acquisitions we will continue to expand our business in Ireland and overseas in the coming years”, he said. “Europe now accounts for 85% of our business and we also sell to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. We recently completed a reorganisation of the business, which included transferring PBS Sales to our Galway HQ. This has aligned our business for future growth and the opportunity for our businesses, particularly in manufacturing, is extensive.
